FAQS
What is Objet Kiln?
Objet Kiln is an independent ceramic art studio creating handcrafted sculptural objects for the home. Our collections include ceramic incense holders, decorative figurines, and sculptural home decor. Each piece is individually shaped, glazed, and kiln-fired by hand at over 1200°C. No molds. No mass production. Every piece is one of a kind.
Why are handmade ceramics more expensive than mass-produced ones?
A handmade ceramic piece takes 5–14 days from wet clay to finished object. The process involves hand-shaping, drying (1–3 days), bisque firing at 900°C, hand-glazing, and final kiln firing at 1200°C+. Materials include professional-grade stoneware clay and glazes. Additionally, kiln firing has a failure rate of 10–20% — pieces can crack or warp during firing, and those pieces can't be sold. When you factor in the time, skill, materials, and risk, the price reflects the true cost of craftsmanship.
What is a sculptural incense holder?
A sculptural incense holder is an incense burner designed as a piece of art — not just a flat tray or basic stick holder, but a three-dimensional ceramic sculpture that holds incense in a creative, visually meaningful way. At Objet Kiln, our sculptural incense holders transform the incense stick into part of the design. For example, in "The Violinist," the incense stick becomes the violin bow, and the rising smoke becomes the melody.
What's the difference between an incense holder and an incense burner?
"Incense holder" and "incense burner" are often used interchangeably. Technically, an incense holder is designed to hold incense sticks upright, while an incense burner is a broader term that includes holders for sticks, cones, coils, and resin. Objet Kiln's pieces are incense stick holders that also function as sculptural art — so they're both incense holders and incense burners.
What makes a cool incense holder?
A cool incense holder goes beyond function — it's a conversation piece that people notice and ask about. The best cool incense holders combine unexpected design (like turning incense into a violin bow or integrating smoke into the art), quality materials (ceramic, brass, stone), and craftsmanship. Look for pieces where the incense itself becomes part of the visual experience, not just something stuck in a hole.
How do I choose the best incense holder for my home?
Choosing the best incense holder depends on three factors: (1) Type of incense — stick holders are the most versatile; (2) Material — ceramic is the most popular because it's heat-resistant and easy to clean; (3) Your decor style — minimalist spaces suit clean, sculptural designs, while bohemian spaces work well with ornate or handcrafted pieces. For a unique statement piece, look for handmade or sculptural incense holders that double as art.

Because each piece is handmade to order specifically for you, we cannot accept returns for change of mind. However, if your piece arrives damaged during shipping, please contact us within 48 hours with photos and we will arrange a replacement at no cost.
How is each piece made?
Every Objet Kiln piece goes through five stages: (1) Hand-shaping from raw stoneware clay, (2) Air-drying for 1–3 days, (3) Bisque firing at 900°C, (4) Hand-glazing with professional ceramic glazes, (5) Final kiln firing at 1200–1300°C. The entire process takes 5–14 days per piece. No molds are used — each piece is individually sculpted by hand.
